A man from Rochester was sentenced to 15 years for his role in drug trafficking ring that brought a large amount of cocaine to the area.

A 38-year-old man was found guilty in being involved in a drug trafficking ring that brought millions of dollars of cocaine to the area from Arizona, California and Texas. State and federal law enforcement agents used wiretap to get evidence that later brought the ring to an end.

New Calif. laws to tighten up on inmates use of cell phones

State Senators are working to make stricter laws against banning cell phones from inmates. One prison inmate filmed a video in prison on his smart phone and California is looking for ways that activity likes this can be stopped.

One Senator has tried to make his third attempt to criminalize contraband cell phones and wants people smuggling the phones in to be fined up to $5,000 and for the inmates using them to receive extra prison time.

He thinks that each cell phone that is in the prison is a crime just waiting to happen. The senator also wants prison guards to go through metal detectors after it was found that a guard was smuggling phones.

Man arrested for sex charge in California

A man that was arrested in California for a sex crime and was under investigation when it was found that he was wanted for similar charges in the Great Falls area.

The 29-year-old man was arrested on charges of sexual assault and sexual intercourse without consent. This arrest came after a woman claimed that the man molested her 9-year-old granddaughter.

The girl was later interviewed by a social worker and she told them the same story that her mother told police. During the investigation it was found that the man was also charged with similar charges in Santa Cruz.

Five California residents have been arrested for drug ring

According to police, five California residents were arrested after they allegedly made a plot to raid a drug house in Las Vegas.

The five were arrested while in the parking lot of a casino at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The ages of the people ranged from 23 to 35 and they have all been accused of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by conspiracy and conspiracy to possess cocaine and intent to distribute.

Town in California trying to post DWI offenders on Facebook

A Huntington Beach councilmen is asking the local police department to post photos on a Facebook page of repeated DUI offenders in order to shame the people who are breaking the law.

The councilmen is hoping that by shaming the offenders, it will stop others from doing it also because they will not want everyone to know what they have done.

The original request was that everyone who was arrested for a DUI be put on the page, but it was then cut back to just repeat offenders. The request was scaled back in order to gain more support from other council members. Residents of the area and privacy advocates do no support the plan.

Two sentenced in California gas skimming scam

Two men who stole nearly $90,000 and 200 people’s identities throughout Northern California have now been sentenced to prison.

The two men were accused of using devices and putting them inside gas pump payment machines. One of the men, age 32, plead guilty to 37 felony counts of identity theft and conspiracy and received seven years in prison.

The 31-year-old man plead guilty to five counts of identity theft and conspiracy and received five years in prison. The men somehow got keys to unlock gas station pumps and then put the device, a skimmer, to wire the pump and retrieve ATM data. Banks have already reimbursed the 196 customers that were taken advantage of.

Agriculture crime on the rise in California

Farmers in the Central Valley of California are noticing that there has been increase in agriculture crime. Some have said that four years of a tough economy has lead to increased agriculture crime through the nation.

One man had 54 brass valves stolen from his irrigation system. In other parts of country, tractor batteries and cattle are being taken.

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department has an agricultural crime unit that catches people who are stealing crops, farming equipment, tractors and chemicals. Crops are a big business in California and they generate nearly $34 billion a year, but the amount of land that the crops are planted on are hard to protect and monitor.

DUI checkpoint causes five to be arrested

Two motorists were arrested for drunken driving and three others were arrested for having outstanding warrants after getting stopped in a drunken driving checkpoint.

There were 813 cars that past through the check point and 782 were screened as they went through. From 7 p.m. Thursday to 2 a.m. on Friday at Harrison and Sixth Street.

Fifty of the motorists received citations and 13 vehicles were towed. The checkpoint was funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a campaign called “Drunk Driving: Over the Limit, Under Arrest.”

Ex-mayor in California not charged in purse-snatching

A former mayor of a Southern California will not be charged in a purse-snatching incident that occurred in October.

The man was arrested in October and was booked for robbery, battery and investigation for assault. According to authorities, the incident occurred when the 35-year-old mayor and a woman were have an argument of some type outside of a restaurant.

The man than fled in his SUV, but the woman’s purse was inside. This lead the woman to run after the SUV and cling to the side. This went on for over a quarter-mile and the mayor resigned the next day.

Two Santa Barbara students arrested for drug crimes

Two University of California, Santa Barbara students have been arrested for suspicion of possession and dealing drugs.

The drugs in question range from methamphetamine to LSD. The two 21-year-old men were arrested last week from their home. The men had multiple drugs that added up to almost $12,000 worth. Other drug related materials were also found such as packaging materials and scales.
